Emotions can both strengthen and weaken the owner family. Yet they often end up at the bottom of the agenda when management meets.
Having run a family business myself, I know how strategies and numbers can overshadow relationships. When emotions are not talked about, conflicts grow under the surface.
My advice to my younger self - and to the families I advise - is to treat the emotional challenges with the same seriousness as the technical stuff.
An emotionally cohesive family is much stronger through changes and crises. That's why it's common sense to put relationships into words - even when it's hard.
